Games
There are three sample games you can try - use the links on the left of this page.
I have written several different games, and for each game there are versions with questions on different themes.
Embedding within PowerPoint
To make lessons flow, I usually embed the games within PowerPoint. To make this work, follow these steps:
- You must enable ActiveX controls within PowerPoint.
- Right-click on a tools panel.
- Select "customise", then "controltoolbox" and select "more controls". Drag the icon onto a toolbar
- Store a copy of the game in the same folder as the PowerPoint document.
- Back in your PowerPoint presentation, select the tool icon you have just added (it has a spanner and hammer on it), then scroll down to "Shockwave Flash Object" and select.
- Use your cursor to drag an area on the slide. You might want to adjust this later.
- Right click in the box you have created and select properties.
- Where it says "url" type in the name of your swf file, including the .swf extension. Make sure "playing" says "true".
- To check it has worked, try adjusting the size of the rectangle and the swf file should appear.
If you find that the game runs once, but refuses to run again, it may be because you have used the presentation, then re-saved it. Doing so changes "playing" from "true" to "false". This is easy to correct.
The above may seem complicated, but it's not to difficult. The first three instructions only need to be carried out the firt time you do this.
